TOUR: Kruger to Zululand Safari

After breakfast and checking out of your accommodation in the small town of Komatipoort you meet your guide and take a short drive to the South African/Mozambique border post.

African borders can be an adventure on its own and your guide will prep you on the do’s and dont’s of African border posts.

Crossing the border post we head to the colorful city of Maputo the capital of Mozambique. This city has grown into a economic power house for Mozambique and like any major city you will find everything you need here with its own African flair. We spend the afternoon exploring Maputo’s history and cultures.

Take this time to pack a small bag for the 2 days that we will spend on Inhaca island.

We have an early wake up and take the short drive to the Maputo channel where we take the Ferry to cross over to Inhaca island. This relaxing trip over the Maputo channel will get you into the slow Island way of doing things. Nothing in Africa happens quickly and on Inhaca island this is even more prevalent.

We spend the afternoon exploring the small town on the island and take in the cultures and smells of this stunningly beautiful section of Mozambique.

Today we relax and enjoy the variety of activities on offer at the island. Activities to choose from includes diving, Dhow trips(traditional mozambican boat), kayaking and much more.

• Inhaca Island – Ponta Malangane
• Driving time: 3 hours

We have an early wake up and head to mainland after breakfast. On the mainland we take the road south, over the newly erected Maputo suspension bridge and through the Maputo Special Reserve where we have the chance to see some elephants, buffalo and a variety of smaller game species.

Our drive takes us through the very scenic mozambican countryside and one get the feeling of how the locals live on a day to day basis.

Our accommodation is the beautiful Sky Island Resort with its natural build Chalet’s overlooking the Indian ocean and the Maputuland wilderness.

• Ponta Malangane

We spend the day exploring Ponta Malangane with its vibrant bars and restaurants there is again some opportunity to do some snorkeling or diving as well as Quad biking and paragliding.

A good way to end the day is with a traditional rum and raspberry in the hand as the sun sets over our last day in Mozambique.

• Ponta Malangane- Hluhluwe
• Driving time: 3 hours

We drive the short way to the Kosi bay border post that takes us back into South Africa. There you will quickly notice a change in culture amongst the people. This region is know as Zululand the home of the Zulu people. This strong African culture once brought fear into their tribesman’s hearts with the great King Shaka Zulu as ruler. Shaka was the ruler of this kingdom in the 1800 and is know as the father of the Zulu nation.

Our drive takes us trough the Isimangaliso wetland world heritage site. South Africa’s first world heritage site. Isimangaliso is known for its biodiversity and you will notice this as we make our way south towards Hluhluwe town.

We spend the night in Hluhluwe town at the wild guest house. Here we have the chance to join on a afternoon big5 safari drive or a big5 safari walk.   

• Hluhluwe – King Shaka International
• Drving time: 3 hours
• Lunch at own expense

After breakfast we take the 3 hour trip to Durban where you say goodbye to your guide and take your flight from King Shaka International airport  to the next part of your african adventure.
